Did you know? BBD Currency Facts
- The BBD is fixed to the USD at a rate of 1USD = 1.98 BBD. This means it doesn’t fluctuate against the USD, and only changes based on a foreign currency’s fluctuation relative to the US dollar
- In 2002, a $5 note bearing the words “To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Central Bank of Barbados” was introduced. Reportedly, only 1,000 notes were issued in folders to bank employees only
- In May 2013, the Central Bank of Barbados introduced redesigned banknotes for the first time in 40 years
- Tactile marks were added to the new notes to help the visually impaired
