Aussie travellers heading to Japan, you’re in for a treat!

As of 8 October 2025, the Australian Dollar to Japanese Yen (AUD to JPY) exchange rate is the strongest it’s been since November last year. In other words, you'll get more Japanese Yen for your Aussie Dollar now than at any other time this year, so your money can stretch further in Japan. And you know what that means…more ramen bowls, more capsule toy spins, more matcha. Yes please!

But, how much more, you ask? Let's girl math this together…

The market rate for Japanese Yen as of 8 October is 99.9527 JPY for every 1 AUD.

If you exchanged $1000 AUD worth of JPY, for example, you'd get an extra 2,952 yen more than the 2025 average (approx. 97 Yen). That equals almost $30 Aussie Dollars!

That extra 2,952 yen can go a long way in Japan. If we’re talking food (which we always are!), that would get you around three extra bowls of ramen or several Family Mart meals to fuel you for all the walking!

Where can I exchange AUD to JPY?

Glad you asked! Cash is still widely used and preferred in Japan, so it’s a smart move to grab some yen before you take off.

At Travel Money Oz, you can pick up all the Japanese Yen you’ll need, either in-store or order online with same-day delivery or easy click and collect.

But what if your trip isn’t for a while? No stress!

It’s a good idea to lock in your exchange rate while it’s hot. And, if it gets even better, our Rate Move Protection has you covered. If the rate improves within the next 7 days of purchase, pop back in-store and we'll give you the difference. Win-win!

Like the market rate, the retail exchange rate fluctuates every half hour, so it's vital to check with your foreign exchange consultant before swapping your currency.
