The weather may be starting to get a little nippy, but the Australian Dollar is doing anything but cool down – it’s heating up against some of our most popular currencies and travel destinations. If you’ve been staring at the crystal ball waiting for a sign to book those flights or to finally lock in your travel cash, consider this your epiphany.

The Australian Dollar is ‘maxxing’ against four fan-favourite destinations – Indonesia, Japan, Canada, and New Zealand. In fact, the Aussie Dollar to Indonesian Rupiah (AUD to IDR) is soaring with its strongest exchange rate in over 23 years! No joke.

So, whether you’re heading to Japan for the last of cherry blossom season or want to make the most of the shoulder season in Bali, here’s why it’s a great time to grab your travel moolah.

Australian Dollar to Indonesian Rupiah (IDR)

The Australian Dollar to Indonesian Rupiah has hit a massive milestone this month – a record-breaking one, actually! We’re seeing the best AUD to IDR in over 23 years…

Let’s put that into perspective.

As of April 13, 2026, the market rate for Indonesian Rupiah was 12,047 IDR for every 1 AUD.

That means if you exchanged $2,000 AUD, you’d get up to 24,094,000 IDR. Compared to the 2025 average for the Indonesian Rupiah (approx. 10,500 IDR), that’s around $207AUD in extra spending money.

To break that down even further:

  • AUD to IDR 5 years ago (2021): The average market rate was about 10,670 IDR. By exchanging, you could expect up to an extra 2,972,000 IDR. That’s roughly $244 AUD in extra spending power!
  • AUD to IDR 10 years ago (2016): The average market value was approximately 9,780 IDR. Today’s market rate might give you an extra 4,752,000 IDR, or about $391 AUD more than a decade ago.
  • AUD to IDR 20 years ago (2006): The average market rate was approximately 6,850 IDR. Today’s market value rate could give you up to an extra 10,612,000 IDR. Your money is literally working twice as hard as it did in 2006!

Those Bali villas, poolside massages, and sunset dinners are looking extra tempting right about now.

Australian Dollar to Japanese Yen (AUD to JPY)

Japan has long been a cult favourite for Aussie travellers, but right now, it’s practically shouting your name. Whether you’re dreaming of around-the-clock fun in Tokyo or traditional matcha tea in Kyoto, the AUD to JPY rate is currently working in your favour.

As of April 14, 2026, the market rate for Japanese Yen is 112.87 JPY for every 1 AUD.

For example, if you exchanged $2,000 AUD, you could receive up to 225,740 JPY. Compared to the 2025 market value average of approximately 97 JPY, you could pocket up to an extra 31,740 JPY — that’s over $281 AUD in extra moolah.

And, to take a trip down memory lane:

  • AUD to JPY 5 years ago (2021): The average market value was approximately 82.50 JPY. You could expect up to an extra 60,740 JPY. That’s roughly $538 AUD in extra spending power!
  • AUD to JPY 10 years ago (2016): The average market rate was approximately 81.20 JPY. Today’s market value rate could give an extra 63,340 JPY, or about $561 AUD, more than a decade ago.
  • AUD to JPY 20 years ago (2006): The average market value was approximately 87.50 JPY. Today’s market value rate could give an extra 50,740 JPY, or roughly $449 AUD, more value than in 2006.

The takeaway: if you’ve got a Japan trip in the near future, now is a great time to convert your AUD to JPY to secure more spending money.

And using our $2000 AUD example again…you could expect up to $1,955 CAD if you exchanged today. Compared to the 2025 market value average of approximately 0.90 CAD, you could walk away with up to an extra $159 AUD in extra spending power for a premium lift pass or a world-class dinner!

Australian Dollar to New Zealand Dollar (AUD to NZD)

We love our cousins across the Tasman…maybe even more so now…that the Australian Dollar to New Zealand Dollar (AUD to NZD) is the best it’s been in over 12 years!
