If your Euro Summer group chat has been popping off with plans to boogie all night long at Amalfi beach clubs or pub hop around London, we’ve got some extra sweet news for you.
The Australian Dollar is flexing against both the Euro (EUR) and Great British Pound (GBP), making those Euro Summer plans even more tempting.
Keep reading to find out just how much extra you could have in your pocket by exchanging your travel money while these rates are hot.
The AUD to EUR is peaking
As of 15 May 2026, the Australian Dollar to Euro (AUD to EUR) is the best it’s been in 18-months! That’s around 0.62 Euros for every Australian Dollar, according to mid-market rates.
Now, that may not sound like a groundbreaking high, but it can make a real difference to your travel budget. Afterall, we all know Europe isn’t an exactly ‘cheap’ destination, especially during peak seasons like Euro Summer. So, any extra Euros in your wallet is a win!
To put it into perspective, if you exchange $2,000 AUD right now, you could get around €1,234, which is €98 extra than the 2025 average for AUD to EUR.
That extra could get you:
- A full day’s rental for two front-row sunbeds and an umbrella at a premium beach club in Hvar or Mykonos, with enough left for your first round of Spritzes.
- A scenic private boat transfer between towns (like Positano to Amalfi) or a very fancy dinner for two featuring fresh seafood and a bottle of local white wine.
- Entry for two to the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay, plus a luxury box of 12 macarons from Ladurée and a bottle of champagne to drink by the Seine at sunset.
- Two round-trip high-speed ferry tickets between the Greek Islands (e.g., Athens to Aegina or Naxos to Paros). Speaking of transport, find out everything you need to know about European public transport in our blog.
- Approximately 25–30 artisanal gelatos. We don’t recommend doing this all in one day, but we won't stop you!
The AUD to GBP is soaring
As of 15 May 2026, the Aussie Dollar to British Pound (AUD to GBP) is the strongest it’s been in almost three years! That’s about 0.54 Pounds for every Australian Dollar, according to mid-market rates.
We all know that a trip to London or a road trip through the Cotswolds can eat through a budget pretty quickly, so hitting a near three-year high is the perfect excuse to lock in your cash.
To put that into money-talk, if you exchange $2,000 AUD right now, you could get approximately £1,074, which is £84 extra than the 2025 average for AUD to GBP.
That could mean extra upgrades, such as:
- A premium ticket (or two decent seats) to a hit West End musical like Wicked or The Lion King, with enough left over for interval drinks.
- Admission for two to the Tower of London or Windsor Castle, plus a traditional British afternoon tea for two with scones, clotted cream, and finger sandwiches.
- A massive Sunday roast dinner for four people at a classic London pub, including a round of pints for the table.
- A behind-the-scenes stadium tour for two at Anfield or Old Trafford, plus a new scarf from the megastore to take home.
- A round-trip advance train ticket from London to Edinburgh or Manchester, letting you explore a whole new city for "free."
How to cash in on these rates before they move
Timing the market is a headache, but when the AUD hits a 3-year peak, you don't really want to sit around and wait for it to dip.
While Europe and the UK are pretty tech-savvy, having physical cash is still a lifesaver for those cash only tavernas, tipping your walking tour guide, or grabbing a quick snack at a local market. If you’re unsure how much to budget, check out our ultimate European budget blog to get an idea.
The smartest move is a hybrid approach: carry a Currency Pass travel card for your big spends and plenty of Euros or Pounds in your wallet for everything else.
