All about the Brunei Dollar
The Brunei Dollar (BND) was introduced in 1967, replacing the Brunei dollar's predecessor, the Brunei Straits dollar.
BND was initially pegged at par (1:1) with the Singapore Dollar (SGD). This arrangement worked well for both countries because of their close economic ties, and the two currencies have remained interchangeable since. In fact, Brunei and Singapore agreed to allow each other’s currency to be used within their borders. The monetary cooperation between the two nations has helped stabilize the Brunei Dollar over the years.
Today, the Brunei Dollar remains one of the more stable currencies in Southeast Asia, and its value is supported by the country’s wealth and prudent financial management. It’s also known for its distinctive design, often featuring prominent symbols of Brunei’s monarchy and national landmarks, giving it a unique identity among other currencies in the region.
