A gentle giant, Nepal is the Himalayan Kingdom that has welcomed trekkers from all over the world. Whether you are setting your sights on Everest, want to ride a rickshaw in Kathmandu, spot leopards, elephants and sloth bears in Chitwan National Park, or explore Buddha’s place of birth, we can help you sort out your travel money before you go so that you have more free time in beautiful Nepal to experience all of this, and so much more.
As an “exotic” currency, we don’t stock the Nepalese rupee in our stores, but with a little bit of notice (around a week or 2), we can arrange a special order of NPR for you. Divided into 100 paisa, it is a good idea to have a mix of large and small denomination notes or coins on you. It can be hard to get change for large notes, and many small businesses – especially rickshaw and taxi drivers – don’t carry a lot of change on them.
If you are not a resident of Nepal or India, you will have to declare any amount of currency exceeding US$2,000 (or equivalent), and when you depart Nepal, you are limited to taking out the amount of money your declared upon entry. Only 10% of the amount exchanged into local currency can be re-exchanged into a foreign currency at the airport when you depart. The import of local and Indian currency is prohibited, except for nationals of Nepal or India. You will however be able to exchange HKD, GBP, SGD or USD for NPR when you arrive, so we recommend changing your AUD into one of these currencies before you go. Before you set off on your Nepalese adventure, let our Experts guide you as to which currency to take, and arrange your order before you go.
