Where to travel in 2024 according to your star sign

11th January 2024

Happy New Year! Here’s to a 2024 full of more – more adventure, more culture, more relaxation, more incredible experiences and more unforgettable moments.

But first – planning where to go!

So, we’ve looked to the stars for advice. Here’s the destination you should travel to based on your astrological sign. Of course, you can look at this just as the horoscope by using your sun sign (and if you don’t know what your sun sign is, then that’s the option for you), or you can look at your sun, moon, rising signs, or your mercury and Jupiter!).

With that, let’s venture in…

Aries: Mexico

Bright, passionate, fiery, adventurous, Aries is a sign that loves new challenges. This year, why not explore Mexico for a destination full of vibrance and excitement? You can go swimming with whale sharks, explore ancient Mayan ruins, and party until the sun comes up.

Currency: Mexican Peso (MXN) and United States Dollar (USD)

Travel Money Tip:  We recommend taking a blend of both currencies – you’ll often get better rates using the local currency (MXN pesos) and it’ll be accepted everywhere, however it’s good to have some US dollars as well as sometimes tours and activities will be priced in dollars. With USD, take smaller denominations when possible. Not sure how much to budget for Mexico? Read our blog to find out!  And while you’re at it, take a squiz at our Money Smart Tips for Travelling Latin America blog too.

Taurus: Japan

Beautiful, loyal, loving Taurus, you need a destination where you can travel slowly and live richly. In 2024, why not enjoy the stunning natural scenery, delicious traditional cuisine, deep history, and beautiful architecture of Japan? You can go exploring in the day (whether that’s cycling through towns or skiing in the mountains) and soak in onsens by night, or maybe you’ll want to visit for the cherry blossom season and eat sakura sweets under the falling petals.

Currency: Japanese Yen (JPY)

Travel Money Tip: In Japan, cash is king! You might also want to get a little coin purse while you’re travelling, as there are lots of things you can buy (like convenience “konbini” store snacks) for as little as 100Yen, so the coins come in very handy! Can’t stop dreaming about Japan? Learn more about how much it costs to travel Japan.

Gemini: Canada

Geminis are witty, smart, hilarious, and playful social butterflies. So, you’ll need somewhere with a great social scene- like ski towns in Canada. You can spend the days shredding the powdery slopes, and the nights partying in the hostels with your brand new friends! Don’t forget to catch an ice hockey match for an electric atmosphere and unforgettable experience.

Currency: Canadian Dollar (CAD)

Travel Money Tip: Some people say the Canadian Dollar smells like maple syrup! We’ll leave that up to you, but make sure you take enough to buy some maple butter to spread on your morning Montreal-style bagels, and load up a Currency Pass prepaid travel card in CAD as well. Convinced? Read our blog for how much money you need to travel Canada

Cancer: Greece

Sweet, sentimental, loving Cancers tend to love destinations that are rich in history. So, why not explore the beauty of Greece and all its ancient wonders? Whether you’re exploring the marble ruins in Athens, or setting sail for the stunning villages peppering the isles, Greece will be sure to inspire.

Currency: Euro (EUR)

Travel Money Tip: Greece is a pretty cash-centric country, and you can often get a better deal (for tours etc.) when you pay in cash! Read our blog for some Greek Islands Budget Travel Hacks, and see our Ultimate Travel Money Guide to Europe for more!

Leo: Spain

Fun-loving, warm, and sunshine in human form, Leos are known to be the life of the party. So why not soak up the sunshine yourself in Spain? Whether you want to party in Ibiza, learn Flamenco in Seville, see the art in Madrid, or have a more slow-paced experience soaking up the sea in Mallorca, Spain will leave an impression on your lion-heart.

Currency: Euro (EUR)

Travel Money Tip: Take a blend of cash and a Travel Money Oz Currency Pass prepaid travel card. PS - If you’re going shopping, just remember that some shops shut for a siesta after lunch and then reopen for the evening! Read this blog for Spain Travel Budget Tips, or if you’re jetting around Europe, make sure to read our Ultimate Travel Money Guide to Europe!

Virgo: Italy

Kind-hearted, helpful, loving, and with an eye for aesthetics, Virgos are some of the most caring and diligent people you’ll ever meet! Why not travel somewhere that acts-of-service love language is celebrated and enjoy la dolce vita in Italy? Whether you want to join an authentic cooking class (picking up tips for when you host your next dinner party with friends, perhaps?), or just practice some slow living on the beautiful Mediterranean, it’s the perfect place to recharge after all your hard work.

Currency: Euro (EUR)

Travel Money Tip: Take a blend of cash and card for your dreamy Italian holiday. Many places take card, but you’ll need the cash to toss into the Trevi Fountain, and you often get a better price with cash too. PS: if you stand at the bar when ordering your coffee (rather than sitting down at a table) it’s often cheaper! Read more travel money tips for Italy in our Ultimate Guide to Europe and How Much Money Do I Need For Italy blogs.

Libra: France

Libras are creative, romantic, charming, and true aesthetes. So the obvious choice is to visit the city of love – museum hopping in Paris of course and a romantic dinner with sparkling Eiffel Tower views. Or, perhaps a glamorous trip to the French Riviera is more your style? Wherever you go in France, there’ll be beautiful scenery, architecture, wine, food, and art to enjoy.

Currency: Euro (EUR)

Travel Money Tip: You can use your Travel Money Oz Currency Pass in France for most things, however you’ll want some cash for buying fresh flowers and croissants in the local markets and for when you’re visiting the countryside. PS - see our Ultimate Guide to Europe for a breakdown of your France travel budget.

Scorpio: Brazil

Scorpios are perceptive, profound, and passionate. For Scorpios in 2024, embrace this by exploring the passionate scenes of Brazil! Whether you’re watching a football match in Rio, or learning the samba at Carnival, the atmosphere is electric. Of course, Brazil is also known for its stunning scenery – from the Rio de Janeiro city scapes (with of course the famed Christ The Redeemer), as well as the Amazon Jungle, Iguazu Falls, and turquoise beaches too.

Currency: Brazilian Real (BRL)

Travel Money Tip: Instead of using a decimal point for the decimal separator, Brazilian reals have a comma. The thousands separator for Brazilian money is the period. So $6,00 is actually 6 reals, not R$600, while $6.000 is six thousand reals. It might be a bit different than what you’re used to, but don’t stress meu amigo – you’ll get the hang of it. Read our blog for how much money to budget for your Brazilian adventures, and while you’re at it, check out our Money Smart Tips for Travelling Latin America

Sagittarius: South Africa

Spontaneous, adventurous, fun-loving, and philosophical Sagittarius is the sign most associated with travel! This year, fully embrace expansion in the wild plains of South Africa – there’s nothing like seeing wild lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, buffalo, (not to mention hippos, zebras, and giraffes!) to really put the world in perspective. After all, your problems feel small when you’ve seen the Big Five!

Currency: South African Rand (ZAR)

Travel Money Tip: As much fun as South Africa is, there are restrictions on carrying cash into the nation. If you have any more than 25,000 ZAR or US$10,000 (or any other equivalent across currencies), you’ll need to declare it upon entry. Just booked your spontaneous South Africa trip? Read our South Africa travel money guide for budget tips.

Capricorn: South Korea

Capricorns are known for their success, power, determination, and ambition… and so you probably need a break from all your hard work. Why not explore somewhere unique and a world away from your usual by travelling South Korea! From the traditional palaces and temples, to K-Pop concerts, to hiking, South Korea has so much to offer (and will keep your mind stimulated so you don’t think about work).

Currency: South Korean Won (KRW)

Travel Money Tip: You’ll need South Korean Won (KRW) to explore Seoul. You’ll want to carry cash for smaller restaurants, tips, and street food, and many merchants won’t take card for anything less than 10,000KRW. Also, you might find yourself reaching for water to help handle the spice of delicious Korean food. A word of advice – make sure you refill your water bottle at safe-refill areas. The water is safe to drink, but the pipes it runs through aren’t, so this will help prevent any nasties. For more Korea money tips, read our guide!

Aquarius: Jordan

Unique, humanitarian, and a little unconventional, Aquarian travellers usually pride themselves on having authentic experiences. So for Aquarius in 2024, why not explore the wonders of Jordan? Of course, you can’t miss the ancient city of Petra, but venture further off the beaten path and stargaze in a Bedouin desert camp in Wadi Rum, float in the Dead Sea (Earth’s lowest elevation point), take a cooking class in Amman, or go diving in the Red Sea!

Currency: Jordanian Dinar (JOD)

Travel Money Tip: Try and break up any large notes into smaller denominations once you’re in Jordan, as it can be hard to pay for items with high-value currency. Also, you can only take up to JOD 300 when you leave the country, so spend what you’ve got while you’re there!

Pisces: New Caledonia

Empathetic and creative, Pisces are the dreamers of the zodiac. So in 2024, rest and recharge from the hustle and bustle of life with a dreamy vacation in New Caledonia. Whether you want to relax in a gorgeous overwater villa, or go snorkling with sea turtles, there’s so much beauty to discover.

Currency: South Pacific Franc (XFP)

Travel Money Tip: Some tourist businesses will accept Australian and New Zealand dollars, but the exchange rates might not be as favourable as using the local currency.
